Wayne Dalton Garage Doors
Low Maintenance Models
Wayne Dalton Garage Doors is one of the top garage door manufacturers in the US. They have been in business since 1954, and offer a wide variety of sectional overhead residential garage doors, as well as commercial garage doors. Wayne Dalton's residential doors come in steel, wood, fiberglass, and glass-aluminum.
Wayne Dalton splits their garage doors up into Premium, Select and Basic model lines. Each model line has several styles and materials, and it is a little difficult to compare the different models on their website. Below is a brief summary of the features and construction details that come with each of their low maintenance, metal-frame models; wood doors are covered on my other Wayne Dalton Garage Doors page (see the link below on the right).
But first, we need to define a couple of features that are found on Wayne Dalton garage doors:
Pinch-Resistant Panels: The door sections are designed so that as they are opened or closed, if someone happens to have their fingers on one of the joints between the door sections, the shape of the panel edge actually pushes the fingers out of the way without pinching them.
Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster: A counterbalance system that encloses the lift springs in a steel tube for safety.
Toughguard: A vinyl backing that is used on the interior surface of some doors to protect the insulation from damage.
With that out of the way, here is the breakdown of the different models of Wayne Dalton Garage Doors:
9700 Series: Three layer carriage style garage doors with a polyurethane core and a steel exterior and interior. They can be ordered with a variety of different painted or stained finishes, or can be painted to match the color of the home. Features include an R10 insulation rating, pinch resistant panels, TorqueMaster system and a limited lifetime warranty. Wind load models are available.
9600 Series: Three layer design with a steel-polyurethane-steel construction, they are available in several different styles. The 9600 series has an R11 insulation rating, pinch resistant panels, TorqueMaster system, and a limited lifetime warranty. Wind load models are available.

8200 Series: 2 layer carriage style garage door with a steel exterior and polystyrene insulation. R7.8 insulation rating, 10 year warranty.
8100 Series: Same design as the 8200, but is an R3.7 rated insulated garage door. 10 year warranty, and wind load models are available.
8000 Series: Also same design as the 8200, but with single layer construction (no insulation). 10 year warranty, wind load models are available.
6100 Series: These are three layer carriage garage doors with a steel exterior, a polyurethane core and a ToughGuard inner layer. Wayne Dalton calls them a 4-layer design, but the 4th layer is actually just the decorative raised stiles, rails, and cross bucks. They come with an R9 insulation rating, TorqueMaster system, and have a limited lifetime warranty. Wind load models are available.
9800 Series: This is actually a three layer steel door with a polyurethane core and an outer layer of fiberglass. They are designed to look like real wood, and come in several styles and colors. Fiberglass garage doors have the advantage of being unaffected by the salty air in a coastal environment. R7.6 insulation rating, pinch resistant panels, TorqueMaster system, wind load models are available. Limited lifetime warranty.
8800 Series: These are glass garage doors with aluminum frames that can be anodized, painted or powder coated in a variety of colors, with 6 choices of glass: clear, white laminated privacy glass, etched, or tinted in green, gray, or bronze. An excellent choice for a contemporary, modern styled home.
Wayne Dalton Garage Doors offers a number of different decorative hinges, handles, and other accents for their garage doors. Of course, a number of optional window styles are available on most models also.
